Black Boy, Sevenoaks - Exterior

History of The Black Boy

One of the most historic pubs in Sevenoaks, The Black Boy dates back to 1616. Its eponymous hero is thought to be one John Morockoe, a name mentioned in 'Knole and the Sackvilles’, written by Vita Sackville-West.

John is thought to have been a remarkable man, as it has been suggested that Black Boy Lane, now the town's Bank Street, was also named after him.

Another school of thought says the house was named after a teacher from the respected Sevenoaks School.
